Ron Greenman, Precision Garage Door Technician, called me 15 minutes before he arrived, thoroughly examined the complete door system, and discovered not only the one cable had the existing extensive fraying issue, but the other remaining cable also showed fraying as well. Both cables were replaced and Ron re-aligned the cable return drums to help prevent future cable fraying. Apparently, the cable drums were too far out of alignment with the corresponding door pulley wheels resulting in lateral pull. Lateral pulling is not what the cables' function is for.
